Calvin Says

Dear Snap Pea Friends.

I have been breeding and developing snap peas for 48 years. Many people have had an important part in the establishment of the snap peas.

When I meet someone who is excited about the use of snap peas, it excites me. I’m energized. I feel connected instantly. It’s like meeting a long-lost, dear friend. I want to hug you and tell you I love you. Some of you have your own personal snap pea story. I love them. Please tell me again and share your stories with others. Peas bring us together, but person to person contact is a lot more than peas.

Life is good when we are working together in a good cause. In my youth, I learned at Church some words of a song that keep coming back to me.

“Have I done any good in the world today?

Have I helped anyone in need?

Have I cheered up the sad and made someone feel glad?

If not, I have failed, indeed.”

. . .”Doing good is a pleasure, a joy beyond measure,

A blessing of duty and love.”

A secret to finding happiness and joy is service to others. Those that love the most, serve the most. When we are very young, we are loved and served by parents and others. Then it becomes our role to do the service and love. Finally, when we are old, we need to be gracious and accept the help of children and others so that their love for us can increase. At 83 years old, age is catching up to me. Now I need more help from others.

A dear friend often told me, “Thank you for being YOU!!!” Now, I can say “Life is good” because I know you and we have a common interest. “Thank you for being you”.

Love, Calvin
